Eating fish while pregnant

Eating fish is one of the most nutritious choices women can find on the menu while they are pregnant or going to be so. With its incredible nutrients like omega-3's, lean protein and B vitamins, fish can be a great choice. But pregnant women or who are trying to get pregnant, have to think not only about the good things that can come with each bite of their food, but also about the potential harm.

Some fishes can contain unhealthy contaminants like mercury that can affect the nervous system and the brain. For that reason, when women are trying to get pregnant they have to think in moderation. It does not mean that you have to stop eating fish. Just do not eat too much of it. The FDA recommends that pregnant women and children should eat no more than 12 ounces of low-mercury fish. There are some fish that are known for their mercury amounts more than others.

What are some fish that you can and should eat during your pregnancy or when you are trying to get pregnant? Mahi-mahi, snapper, blue crab, snow crab, cod, scallops, catfish, flounder, lobster, crawfish, salmon, shrimp, clams, tilapia, sardines and anchovies are all safer choices during your pregnancy.

There have been studies that show that eating fish during your pregnancy can be a good thing if you eat the safer fishes mentioned above. After all, fish food is brain food. Fish nutrients have been known to assist with brain development in children and fetuses. You just need to make sure that the food you eat – especially the fish you eat – is an appropriate choice. You do not want any empty calories since every bite is going towards your child's development. Fish can provide some of the best sources for different calories that you will need, including protein and B12.

Studies have shown that children whose parents ate fish several times a week had higher scores on mental and social tests. The thought is that the higher amounts of omega-3 fatty acids and these long chain fatty acids are great for neurological development throughout the pregnancy and early childhood.

Do not forget that there are also other nutrients which are essential for your pregnancy and child's development.

Fertility of male

Male fertility can play a bigger role when women are trying to conceive than most couples might primarily think. Most couples concentrate so much on the female partner that contemplating the male fertility issue does not come into question until conception may be getting away from the couple.

A few numbers of couples will experience significant problems with infertility. And roughly half of the cases are because of male fertility issues. With this information in mind, people can better address the concepts of male fertility issues to progress towards natural conception. Learning about what to do and what not to do while the couple is trying to conceive is integral to the success of the conception.

If any woman has been trying to get pregnant for over a year without success, it is time to look into fertility testing. Since male fertility testing is much less persistent than it is for women, the first step of fertility testing usually involves a semen analysis. Male fertility can be influenced by a number of factors, similar to how a woman's ovulation cycle can also be affected by outside influences.

Such difficulties can be influenced by a range of genetic and permanent or short-term problems. If the man is having any problems with ejaculation, the source of the infertility might lie there. If there is a swelling of the testicles, swollen veins in the scrotum or the testicles themselves have been abnormally developed, you can see problems with sperm count.

There are some things that men can do to promote a higher sperm count and reduce the impact of male infertility while the couple is trying to conceive.

• Other than having a pre-existing condition or hormone disorder, the man should avoid wearing restraining or tight underwear. Wearing tight underwear will keep the testicles too close to the body, raising the temperature of the scrotum and reducing the sperm count and therefore, overall ability to conceive.

• Other things to avoid in order to promoting sperm count would be hot tubs and laptops.

• In the case of hot tubs, the heat of the water will have the same effect that tight underwear will have for the testicles.

• In addition, most individuals place laptops in their lap and the heat from the computer can affect the testicles as well. Leaving your laptop on your lap for hours at a time can be detrimental to your sperm count.

• Finally, long hours of strenuous and hard bike riding can also be bad for sperm count since the placement of the testicles during bike riding is not beneficial to their natural production of sperm.

Knowing what affects and influences male fertility can help you promote healthy sperm production and conceive naturally with your partner in a more effective manner.

Smoking during pregnancy

In Bangladesh, women usually do not smoke. But it is common for women to smoke in western countries. Those who are smokers and are thinking about getting pregnant, the first step they need to take is to quit smoking. If you are like most smokers, you may have thought about or tried quitting before.

However, if you are pregnant or trying to conceive, you now need to not only think about your health, but the health of your baby. Smoking will affect your child's development and future growth.

Smoking during pregnancy would cause an increase in infant deaths and such death can be decreased if these women quit smoking. Cigarette smoke contains thousands of chemicals – approximately 2,500 chemicals are being entered into the child's bloodstream with every puff on a cigarette. Nicotine, tar and carbon monoxide are the most dangerous and most toxic to the fetus, impacting them during the most crucial development stages while inside the womb.

Even if the mothers do not smoke, their children can be impacted by them who are frequently exposed to cigarette smoke such as the smoking habit of the fathers. The second-hand smoke can be just as harmful to both the mother and the child. A woman who smokes or is exposed to frequent second-hand smoke is more likely to have a baby born with low birth weight and stunted growth. The sooner the woman quits or stays away from the second-hand smoke, the better the chances of good health for her and her child.

Smoking has been associated with a higher risk in pregnancy, which is when the embryo has been implanted in the fallopian tube instead of the uterus. When this happens, medication has to be taken to remove the embryo, or in the worst case, the tube must be surgically removed. Smoking will also increase the risk of stillbirth, miscarriage and vaginal bleeding that is severe enough to harm the baby.

Smoking while pregnant can make the child develop slower, increasing the risk for low birth weight and the risk for a preterm delivery (the child is delivered before 37 weeks of gestation) by 30%.

There are also other abnormalities such as cleft lip, cleft palate or other birth defects. Babies born of smoking mothers are more likely to die from SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and can have higher chances of asthma, behavioral problems and learning disabilities from the slower developmental growth.

So, stop smoking and do not be near second-hand smoke while being a pregnant woman, because it can affect both the mother and the baby throughout the pregnancy and early years of their lives.

BE SAFE DURING PREGNANCY

The decision to get pregnant and expand your family is an exciting moment in your life. Once you have decided to have a child enter your life, the next steps are to be sure you do everything you can to get pregnant through natural means, if possible. There are a variety of ways to be safe during pregnancy by modifying your current lifestyle. By living a healthier life, you are more likely to enjoy these ways to get pregnant and have a healthier body for your future infant!

Look for simple life changes that can be easy ways to get pregnant in the future. If you have recently found out that you are pregnant, you can still enact these changes and reap the success.

Most of these suggestions are based on traditional wisdom coupled with statistical results. Some mothers and babies do great without following all of these lifestyle suggestions, but it's always better to be safe when you are responsible for the life of another human being.

Some of the best ways to be safe during pregnancy through a healthy lifestyle are as follows:

Your eating habit

Whatever goes into your body will go into the body of your baby as well. This fact alone should make you rethink some of your choices. Would you rather eat junk food or a well-balanced diet? Do you need to reconsider some of your daily food choices to ensure your child is getting all of the nutrients and vitamins that he or she needs now? There are a number of foods to avoid while you are pregnant. Some of, these foods are considered risky even if you were not pregnant, but with the increased risk of carrying a child, some of these foods should be avoided to risk any complications or problems. Some examples are fish high in mercury or soft cheese.

Your shape

Carrying around a child takes a lot of work. It makes sense then that the more normal your body weight and strength are during the pregnancy, the better off you will be while carrying the child. It takes a lot of strength to make women's labor easier. In addition, strong abdominal muscles and good fitness will help women throughout their nine months and when the labor finally begins. Women should maintain a level of exercise throughout the pregnancy if they always worked out before they conceived. Never push yourself and always follow doctor's orders for your workout routine.

Taking drugs, alcohol or smoking

We all know that drugs, alcohol or smoking are not healthy for us. So, partaking in these activities while your child is sharing your blood does not make much sense. Recreational drugs and legal drugs can both affect the growth of your baby. Consult with your doctor to ensure that the medicines you have been prescribed cannot affect your baby negatively. Avoid smoking and alcohol to give your baby the best chance at being born strong and healthy.

Folic Acid

Doctors may prescribe folic acid as one of the ways to get pregnant safely even before you become pregnant. Most doctors will suggest folic acid supplements for pregnant women because women do not get enough of it in their daily diet. Folic acid is important to take well before you actually conceive, so you should start taking it at least a month before trying. What it does is help to prevent certain neural tube birth defects.

By maintaining these ways to get pregnant through a smart and healthy means you will be contributing to a healthy pregnancy.

Irregular Period

Having an irregular period can cause frustration because understanding your cycle is an integral part of your future success with conception! And when women are trying to get pregnant, their periods can turn from a monthly irritation to the focus of their concentrations.

To identify an irregular period, you should know what a regular cycle is first. Many women do not have a cycle that lasts 28 days even though this is considered the “perfect cycle.” Some women see a 20-day period, and others may have one every 35 days. The best way to tell your cycle is to keep a chart. Roughly 30 % of women experience an irregular period on average.

An irregular period is:

• a shorter or longer menstrual cycle,

• late or early periods, bleeding between periods,

• missed periods,

• continuous periods

• having two periods in one cycle.

All of these different possibilities can create physical and psychological problems for you.

There are some factors that can cause an irregular period. Irregular periods are essentially the result of hormones that have been thrown out of balance for whatever reason. If you are stressed, have anxiety or have changed your typical routine, your hormones can get out of sync and cause a late or missed period.

Some other common problems might include:

Exercise – If you have been intensely exercising, the result may be an irregular period

Menarche – It is defined as a girl's first period, menarche is the stage when your body is just starting to menstruate. It can take up to 3 years before the body settles down into a normal pattern.

Diet – if you are losing weight rapidly or have lost too much weight, you can struggle with an irregular period. If you have anorexia or bulimia, you will frequently not have a period at all.

PCOS – The women who have polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) will also have irregular periods. The periods that do occur will have heavy bleeding. And if any women try to get pregnant with PCOS, this situation can make their attempts to conceive even more troublesome and can lead to complications. For this reason, most women with PCOS will receive medication in order to induce their ovulation and put them on a regular cycle schedule.
